World Wide Fund for Nature South Africa (WWF-SA)(Nedbank Green Trust)

The WWF Nedbank Green Trust, founded in 1990 by Nedbank and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-SA), funds innovative projects to help solve some of the greatest societal and environmental challenges in South Africa.

True to our motto, ‘igniting new ways for people and nature to thrive’, we have, over the years, sought new paths, points of connection and solutions to ensure that people prosper. Our passion is for people and nature to coexist in harmony for the benefit of our country and the wellbeing of all.

The trust is funded through the Nedbank Green Affinity Programme, which has so far helped raise more than R300 million to support over 200 diverse environmental projects throughout South Africa.

The Kresge Foundation

The S.S. Kresge Company was 25 years old in 1924. Sebastian S. Kresge himself was 57. To commemorate the anniversary of his growing company, on June 11 he established The Kresge Foundation in booming Detroit, where the auto industry, also 25-years old that year, had spawned rampant growth and widespread prosperity. The foundation listed its goals as promoting “philanthropic and charitable means of human progress.”

South Coast Foundation

South Coast Foundation is a private family foundation that operates a grantmaking program in South Africa. With an underlying commitment to poverty reduction, our mission is to support vulnerable children and their care providers through organizations that offer services at the local level. Our guiding principle is “No impact too small”.

Given our history in South Africa spanning over three decades, areas of support have changed with the times. However, one constant remains. We consider community-based organizations as central to our mission. At the heart of community development, these organizations provide a lifeline to impoverished communities. They stand on the frontlines, as the vanguards of impactful, relevant, and innovative solutions. After fifteen years of focusing on orphans and vulnerable children impacted by the HIV/Aids pandemic, South Coast Foundation’s current grantmaking program partners with rural organizations that provide services and educational opportunities to vulnerable children (OVC) ages 0 – 6 and their caregivers.

Walter Sisulu Scholarship Fund

UCDG is a Department of Higher Education (DHET) instrument, designed for “staff development, student support and development and programme development” in South African universities (DHET 2019). At WSU, it serves precisely this purpose.

It is a crucial source of researcher development funding for staff members studying towards Master’s and Doctoral degrees at WSU or any other institution of higher learning in South Africa.

It covers up to 25% of tuition fees for grantees as well as their research running expenses (such as proposal development, fieldwork, data analysis and subsistence and travel costs) up to a specified amount.

UCDG is also used to cover the costs of various capacity-building and training programmes rendered by the Directorate.

Staff can access the grant by responding to internal calls issued by the Directorate through the University Helpdesk and/or the Directorate’s Vital Mail at the beginning of each year. All completed grant application forms should be submitted to the Directorate by the announced deadline.
